I am currently working towards a research PhD in the Electronics Engineering Lab at the University of Kent at Canterbury in the area of Biometrics. Biometrics is the term used to refer to the identification of individuals using unique physiological or behavioural data. Methods currently employed include fingerprint, hand, iris and retina scanning and face and voice recognition. I am specifically interested in improving the performance and reliability of biometric systems and in my first term initiated some experiments to look particularly at the area of handwritten signature verification. The success of biometric processing depends, in many cases, on the co-operation of the user with the verification system itself. This is especially true when the acquisition of the biometric data itself is sensitive to the nature of the human-computer interface, and this is an area which I am now exploring using, initially, the acquisition of fingerprint images as a scenario for testing. This is my lovely desk, except you can't see the spider plant that eeks out a meagre existence with next to no natural lighting! All things being equal and aside from no major cock-ups I am soon to be published... go me! |
