Abu Simbel. Built by Ramesses II and dismantled and relocated when the High Aswan Dam was built. We flew here into the desert in a rickety old plane and got out into the 47 degree heat along with hundreds of others to see this ancient wonder.

Inside were scenes depicting battle heroics and victories. Alongside there is a smaller temple dedicated to Ramesses' wife Nefertari.
